Sam Luan Commits to Lebanon Valley College

Sam Luan has committed to play NCAA Division III hockey at Lebanon Valley College beginning in the 2026-27 season. Luan will continue his development with the Boston Jr. Rangers (NCDC) as he prepares for the next level.

The Rangers forward has posted 14 goals and 22 assists for 36 points in 50 games this season. The road to LVC started with a teammate: when Rory Booth committed to Lebanon Valley earlier this year, Luan did his own research and liked what he found.

“I started talking to LVC after I found out my teammate Rory committed there. I looked up the school and the program and thought it would be a nice spot for me, so I texted Coach Rich that I am interested. It turned out Coach Parsons loved my hockey IQ and wanted me to be a part of the team.”

The academic fit was just as important as the hockey. Luan is on a pre-med track, and LVC’s strong academic programs gave him a clear path to pursue both goals at once.

“The academics are great at LVC, which gives me a great boost for my pre-med track. The hockey culture was also what I would love to play for, after some conversations with Coach Parsons.”

Getting to this point took a leap of faith on both sides. Luan had stepped away from the game to focus on school at UConn, and when he was ready to return, Coach DeCaprio was the one who gave him the chance.

“Funny story: Coach Rich was the only junior team coach that offered me a spot for this season. Because of a season of no hockey and just school at UConn, I disappeared in the hockey world. But Coach Rich was more than happy to take a risk on me, and it seemed to work out pretty well.”

The connection with Booth runs deep, and knowing a trusted teammate and friend would be on the other side of the commitment made the decision that much easier.

“Rory has always been a great teammate. He is brilliant in school as well, so when he committed there I figured to do some research on the school and it turns out to be somewhere I want to go too. Glad to spend a couple more years with this guy.”

With Lebanon Valley secured, Luan is focused entirely on what is left in front of him in Boston.

“I want to win as many games as possible and go for a championship run. We have a special group of guys and we could do great things.”

Congratulations to Sam Luan and his family on his commitment to Lebanon Valley College!
